Introducing Ferg
Please visit our website:
On Friday Ferg our engineer came to the Drawing Office for a morning workshop. Ferg's great, not only because he brings us bacon rolls, but also because he is an engineer. And (almost) every Building Workshop project needs an engineer. He fits in perfectly at Building Workshop. Like us, Ferg grew up in Angus and he is passionate about designing and building great buildings and loves getting involved in the nuts and bolts of every project.
He enjoys working on beautiful traditional buildings, as well as the super modern. And his detail drawings are very tidy!
As well as our projects, Ferg works on some big big designs from superstores to zoos, with some of the world's best architects including London based Iranian female architect Zaha Hadid. Zaha Hadid designed the Riverside Museum - replacing Glasgow's Museum for Transport - which is being built at the moment. We can't wait to see it once it's finished.
Ferg was the engineer for the only Scottish finalist of the V&A Dundee competition - the Crannog - designed by Edinburgh based architect's practice Sutherland Hussey.

Scrap Book
Please visit our website:
When we start a new project, we always tell our clients that they must start keeping a Scrap Book, full of anything they like, from chairs, to windows, wooden floors, curtains, kitchens, bathrooms. Inspiration is so helpful during the design process and photos, magazine cuttings, pages out of brochures, or pictures from the internet are all great.
Below are some pictures from our Scrap Book....

Renewable Heating Incentive RHI
Please visit our website:
At a time when fossil fuels are running out and oil is getting more and more expensive, it couldn't be better. Britain is currently one of the least effective countries in the EU at generating energy for heating using renewables, hence the very tempting incentives for us to change our tune. Germany and the Scandinavian countries are at the top, as usual! Once again, we need to follow their example.
Have a look at the government's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)'s Press Release.
Exciting times! The types of heating systems that will qualify for this scheme are biomass boilers (log, wood chips, wood pellets), geothermal (ground source heat pumps), and solar thermal.
